Rector Lénárd Darázs welcomed the university's outstanding lecturers and staff at the academic year's opening ceremony on September 4. This year, the Senate awarded the title of professor emeritus to twelve university professors. Four individuals received Commemorative Medal honors. The Eötvös Ring was awarded to László Zentai.

The University Senate, in recognition of several decades of outstandingly high-quality domestic and international teaching activity, scientific achievements, involvement in nurturing future scholars, and professional public service in education and research, awarded the title professor emeritus to:

  • István Groma (TTK Institute of Physics and Astronomy)

  • János Győri (PPK Institute of Intercultural Psychology and Pedagogy)

  • Gábor Kardos (ÁJK Department of International and European Public Law)

  • Katalin Kroó (BTK Institute of Slavic and Baltic Philology)

  • Mihály Kurucz (ÁJK Department of Agricultural Law)

  • György Németh (BTK Institute of History)

  • András Némethi (TTK Institute of Mathematics)

  • Simon Thompson (IK Institute of Informatics)

  • Máté Szabó (ÁJK Institute of Political Science)

  • Miklós Törkenczy (BTK Institute of English and American Studies)

  • László Zentai (IK Institute of Cartography and Geoinformatics)

 

The Eötvös Ring honoree can be a civil servant whose service relationship ended due to retirement, in recognition of an outstanding career in the profession or science. The Eötvös Ring is a gold ring adorned with the ELTE crest. In 2026, the Eötvös Ring was awarded to:

  • László Zentai (IK Institute of Cartography and Geoinformatics)

 

Eötvös Loránd University Commemorative Medal can be awarded to the university's outstanding leaders upon completion of their terms, as well as to university and college professors or other senior staff after several decades of exceptional work whose service relationship ended upon eligibility for retirement. In 2026, the following received the Eötvös Loránd University Commemorative Medal:

  • Katalin Felvinczi professor emeritus (PPK)

  • Ferencné Gereben professor emeritus (BGGyK)

  • Tihamér János Margitay university professor, department head (GTK)

 

Pro Universitate Commemorative Medal recognizes decades-long, multi-term, outstanding teaching, research, or leadership activity.

Pro Ingenio Quality Award and Certificate are awarded by the University to ELTE lecturers and researchers who, for many years, performed outstanding and dedicated work in the development of scientific activities for high school and university students in any domain of talent management.

The Face of ELTE Sport honorary title this year was won by Máté Vásárhelyi, Hungarian long-distance and ultrarunner, marathoner, and student of ELTE PPK.
